Though currently singing in Hong Kong, Sony Holland was drawn to and inspired by the spirit of San Francisco. Hers is the story of a singer who suddenly moves to a town she’s never visited, without knowing a soul there… who starts out by singing on the city streets (selling thousands of CD’s, the first to a vacationing Neil Sedaka) and winds up on the stage of the Plush Room and Jazz At Pearl’s before sold out houses and wild applause in just a little over a year’s time... whose CD “On A San Francisco High” has been praised in The San Francisco Chronicle, All About Jazz, Jazz Review and more. Sony was born singing in the icy north of Minnesota where dad was a minister and mom a coloratura in the choir. Her musical talent led her to work with a variety of bands in Minneapolis, Denver and Nashville, but she ultimately fell in love with jazz while on a yearlong stay in Paris. Returning to the U.S.A. she performed and recorded “I’ll Remember Paris” with the Dennis Burnside Trio in Nashville, TN. The combo quickly created a stir, performing regularly and scoring a Music Row Magazine DisCovery Award. In 2002 Sony was a finalist in the Nashville Grammy Competition and included in Nashville Lifestyles Magazine's annual list of the areas "Most Beautiful People.”

Encouraged by her success in the capital of country music she decided to try an area known for jazz. By 2004 she was working a myriad of Bay Area nightclubs, street fairs, festivals, fundraisers, galas, weddings, record stores, wineries, on radio & television, you name it... When she was invited to render "San Francisco, open your Golden Gate" at a ceremony to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, she sang it with all the pride of a native. “Performing is my passion and San Francisco has given me the opportunity to sing day in and day out,” she says with a big smile. “One day I may play a party on Nob Hill, the next day I’ll sing at a dimly lit jazz club, or for the tourists out at Pier 39.” In the process she’s made a legion of fans and friends, while adding a new chapter to San Francisco's rich musical heritage. Oh, and for those who were wondering, Sony is a nickname for Sonia.
